Destination: Riverfront Crossings Park

LKR Agent guest post by Liz Firmstone

As a full-time REALTOR® who serves the Iowa City Metro area, I am very excited about Riverfront CrossingsRiverfront Crossings is a wonderful new park being built in Iowa City.  Flexible open spaces are planned for the park to ensure year-round use. These areas can be used for ball games of all kinds, picnics on a sunny day, concerts, and winter activities.  See the Master Plan.

Winter Activities

Winter activities can include cross country skiing and snowshoeing along the trails.  There will also be the opportunity to host winter events in the plaza.  I’m especially looking forward to watching the eagles and other wildlife from the overlooks.

Cultural Features

In addition to the many gathering spaces, mowed-meadow venues, and plaza, a series of informal pads are also planned along the trail. Their function is to provide an additional option for cultural, artistic displays and activities.  Furthermore, one of the outcomes the park hopes to encourage is the temporary placement of public art on an ongoing basis.

Both the park and plaza will offer many spaces for small and medium-sized gatherings.  Park-goers will also have the opportunity to have personal, reflective experiences. Vocal plays, music performances, dance, yoga or large markets all have opportunity to occur at the plaza. The programming options are boundless!

I encourage you to get out soon and enjoy one of the many excellent parks in our community!  Maybe I’ll see you at one of them this spring or summer!  See a complete list of Iowa City parks.
